As you may be aware, this happened this morning. It very rudely woke me up. I’m sure you also know that there are only four more of these left. And no more at night. Once they’re done, who knows how long before one of the commercial entities begin sending people into low earth orbit.
One of the more interesting details of this whole switch is that one of the commercial carrier possibilities is run by the founder of Amazon, and another by the Paypal one. Blue Origin and SpaceX respectively. Well, maybe it makes sense, bigtime internet people = geeks = love star trek/star wars = want to go into space like their heroes.
There are a lot of changes coming to Kennedy and NASA in general. A lot of jobs going away. I have no idea where I’ll be living/working a year from now. For me, that’s as much exciting as it is something to worry about. However, there’s a good 7,000 people for which this is all horrifying.
